I've read some negative reviews on the internet just right before saying "Arietty" is a bland kids movie but I cannot share those feelings at all.
I really liked the movie very much because of his slow and poetic pace and Cécile Corbel's beautiful background music.
Hiromasa Yonebayashi is a very talented director who delivers some impressive scenes just right there and here when you don't expect them at all.Don't compare him with Miyazaki because even though the characterdesign looks 100% Miyzaki(unlike "The Cat Returns and Tales from Earthsea) his storytelling is different and has his own charm.
I also totally like the climax in the movie where Arrietty and her human friend Sho trick that nasty woman Haru and the many hints to former Ghibli Movies. The story is based on the first of four "The Borrowers" novels and ends just there where the first novels ends.
If there is a justification to make a Studio Ghibli sequel, here it is.
By the way I watched the french version in Luxembourg and thought the voice actors did a pretty decent job and Cécile Corbels ending song is even prettier in french:
